Who we are

WA Tracking is a product by OneStopMaker, a digital marketing agency based in Malaysia. We help local service businesses (clinics, renovation contractors, lawyers, tuition centres, beauty salons) to grow their leads through Google Ads.

Almost every single one of our clients uses WhatsApp as their primary lead channel. Not email. Not phone. WhatsApp. Because in Malaysia (and across Southeast Asia), that's just how people contact businesses. WhatsApp penetration in Malaysia is over 80%.

The problem we couldn't solve

For years, we ran Google Ads campaigns where 100% of the conversions happened on WhatsApp but none of those conversions were visible to Google Ads. Our clients used WhatsApp Business App, not WhatsApp Business API. That means no Conversions API, no pixel, no official integration of any kind.

We tried the obvious workaround: tracking the WhatsApp button click in GTM as a conversion. But this made everything worse. Smart Bidding started optimising toward people who clicked the button, not people who actually sent a message. Most people who click a wa.me link are just checking the number. They leave without messaging.

"Our client spent $2,500 on Google Ads. Google Ads showed 140 conversions. The client told us they got 12 real leads that month. We had to explain that 128 'conversions' were people who clicked the WhatsApp button and left. There was no way to tell which of the 12 real leads came from which campaign."

We searched for a solution. There wasn't one. Every tracking tool assumed you were using WhatsApp Business API or that conversions happened on a website form. None of them solved the gap between clicking a WhatsApp button and actually having a conversation.

So we built WA Tracking

WA Tracking works with standard WhatsApp Business App, no API subscription needed. It installs via Google Tag Manager in under 5 minutes. When a visitor clicks your WhatsApp button, we capture their GCLID, keyword, match type, and campaign, then generate a unique reference code that's prepended to their WhatsApp message.

When they contact you and you confirm it's a genuine lead, you export a Google Ads-ready CSV and upload it as an offline conversion. Smart Bidding now sees a real conversion signal and starts optimising toward people who actually message, not just people who click.

Our own clients saw CPL drop and lead quality improve within 2–3 months of using real conversion data. We decided to productise what we'd built and make it available to agencies everywhere.
